Blue Shield is a rock salt/calcium blend that is coated with CMA (Calcium Magnesium Acetate). This allows it to keep melting in much colder temperatures. Also, the CMA is much safer for concrete sidewalks, providing a protective coating between the rock salt and concrete. It is colored blue so you can see where it is spread. Melts to -25°F
