Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick (Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’)

Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick is famous for its twisted, spiraling, and contorted branches. This deciduous shrub has green crinkly leaves that mature to yellow in the fall. It produces pendulous, yellow catkins in late winter. It thrives in full sun and organically rich, well-drained soil. Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick is loved for its gnarly branches, making a striking silhouette during the winter months.

Walking Stick (Corylus avellana) are also known as ‘Corkscrew Hazel’ and ‘Contorted Filbert’. They are known for their twisted, corkscrew branches. They can be pruned in the late winter or early spring to remove old wood. They prefer full or partial sun. Walking Stick also feature the winter months by producing catkins throughout winter.
